National Eye Health Week and the importance of looking after our eyes: 24-30/09/18

During National Eye Health Week we did some learning about the importance of sight as one of our senses and the importance of looking after our eyes.

We had some dressing up glasses in our home corner to enable conversations with the children about glasses and why some people have to wear them. We discussed our right to health care including the opticians and to have our needs met, like wearing glasses if we need them to see (UNCRC A24/27) and also how lucky we were in this country, as some children didn’t have access to the same health care as us and couldn't get glasses if they needed them. It also brought up interesting conversations about identity and how everyone is different in terms of how they look and what they wear and even what their needs are, an important aspect of our PSED and British Values curriculum.
