The Governing Body

The Governing Body of South Normanton Nursery School is comprised of representatives of the LEA, the Community, Parents and Staff.

All Governors complete a business interests form annually, a copy of the business interests register can be viewed on the link at the bottom of this page.

The Full Governing Body meets four times a year, and throughout the year Governors meet regularly as 2 active committees – the Resource Management Committee (RMC) and the Teaching and Learning Committee (T & L). Each Committee then feeds back to the Full Governing Body.

Name and type of Governor

Reason for becoming a Governor A glimpse into my life ....

Peter Hallsworth

Headteacher

I am the Headteacher of the school and I work closely with the rest of the Governing Body in ensuring that we have a clear strategic direction and vision and that we provide the best care and education for our children. By working together and ensuring that we have a clear plan of why and how we can develop, we will continue to make South Normanton Nursery School the best it can be.  I spend time out of school with my family going to the theatre and taking long walks. I am a big football fan, previously running two football teams. I also go to watch my favourite team with my son.

Ruth Davison

Assistant Headteacher

I am the Assistant  Headteather and work full time in nursery. I am a Co-opted Governor and have been a member of the governing body since my appointment as teacher back in 2007. I see my governing body role as very important. Firstly stepping up as Headteacher to maintain our high standards at nursery and then supporting our new headteacher, but also helping to keep the rest of the Governing Body well informed of the teaching and learning in nursery. I am able to share with the other governors, from first hand experience, how as a staff we have the highest expectations for every child and maintain the highest possible standards for all the children in nursery as we prepare them for a life of living and learning. Outside of nursery, I love spending time at home with my family and exploring the countryside around my home. I enjoy films that make me think and songs that make smile and I listen to live music whenever I can.

Isobel Martin

Co-Chair of Governors

LA Governor

I was Headteacher of The Brigg Infant School in South Normanton for 12 years before retiring at the end of August 2014. I am pleased to still be involved with the community of South Normanton through my voluntary work as a Governor and hope that my recent experience in education will be useful to the Governing Body, Headteacher and her staff. I now love spending time looking after my two young granddaughters and helping them develop through their Early Years.

When not 'child-minding', my husband and I enjoy frequent trips to France - and further afield. I also enjoy practising my French and I am a member of a choir. Family is important to me and although my three children have now grown and' flown the nest', we love to visit them or to welcome them back home for visits.

Emma Chamberlain

Co-Chair of Governors

Parent Governor

Coming from a background in Neighbourhood Policing, I understand the importance of positively influencing and inspiring young minds. I have a history of Volunteering, mainly within children’s centres, working closely with families to build long term relationships.

I moved to South Normanton In May 2017, and felt it was a perfect opportunity to get involved and share my experience to further improve an already fantastic nursery.

In my spare time I enjoy seeing family and friends. I especially enjoy supporting my daughters with their hobbies. As a family we enjoy spending time outdoors walking our Labradoodle in the Derbyshire countryside and holidays to Whitby. I am the enthusiastic renovator of our century old home and painting furniture. I am very passionate about charity work and helping others.
Siobhan Johnston Vice-Chair of Governors Parent Governor I applied to be a parent governor because I really want to help our amazing nursery continue to be outstanding. Placing my daughter in this nursery was the best thing we've ever done and watching her develop is amazing. I wanted to help ensure that many more parents get to experience this and that we don't stand still but continue to move the teaching and nursery forward. I've worked in the public sector for a long time and believe in creating somewhere where every child can develop and be the best they can. In my spare time I love to ice-skate particularly with my daughter. I am working in improving my figure skating. I enjoy walking in the Peak District and getting out and about and exploring the local area. I love to be active and don't like to stay still for too long!

John Cox

Co-opted Governor

The majority of my Grandchildren have attended South Normanton Nursery and I have seen first hand how they have benefitted from the early years of education. Also the dedication and care of staff to the children has made me want to be a part of an outstanding nursery and help contribute towards its aims and practices.

I am a retired electrical engineer, married with 11 grandchildren (7 girls/4 boys). The majority of them are school age but there are 2 left still to attend nursery. I am probably better known to many as ‘Santa’ with South Normanton Gala, which I totally enjoy taking part in.

Ashley Enright

Co-opted Governor

I became aware of the extraordinary work being done by the whole staff at South Normanton Nursery School and the incredible results being achieved. I see the position of Governor as a tremendous opportunity to support them and truly hope that in the role of Governor I can contribute to this amazing team and to the wider community.
Outside of work I am a self confessed sport addict who will happily attempt and attend (or more usually watch on tv) a wide variety of sports.
On those weekends when I'm not binge watching the latest must see boxset I try to make the most of my National trust membership and love to visit as many of their historic and beautiful sites as possible.

Laura Poyser

Co-opted Governor

I wanted to be a Governor to play a part in supporting an outstanding nursery school and help ensure that excellent standards of learning are maintained.

I enjoy music, theatre, walking/running, travel and photography.

David Ramsay

Co-opted Governor

My eldest son attended the nursery in 2017/18 and the level of teaching, support and development he received was exceptional. I was really keen to get involved in the school and when I was asked about becoming a Governor I was more than happy to support. My sole aim is to support in any way I can to ensure that the school continues at the outstanding level. I have two younger children that are both registered to attend and after seeing first hand the difference it has made to my eldest son, I will do all that is asked of me as a Governor to ensure that continues for not just my own children, but those in the community as giving young people the best start to their educational journey is vital.

I work as Continuous Improvement Manager for Wilko, which is all about improving business process. Outside of this I have 3 young children that keep me very busy, so spending time with them on various family days out is always good fun. I am also a big football fan and love going to watch Aston Villa.

Nikki Lancaster

Staff Governor

Hi, I'm Nikki. I'm a part time Early Years Educator and a Staff Governor. Being a Governor makes me feel more involved in the running of the nursery, I have been at South Normanton Nursery School since 2006 and have been a Governor before for a couple of years. As my children are now at university I have more time to offer and enjoy the nursery.  Outside nursery I enjoy being with my friends and family and love baking and gardening.
