Assessing children's learning and progress is key to ensuring that your child is developing and achieving. In Nursery we observe our children and gather evidence in lots of different ways.
We collect information throughout your child's time at our school. Their first assessment is called a 'Baseline assessment' and this where we find out exactly what your child can do and what they know. We are then able to plan their next steps from this information and amend our provision to enhance and extend their learning.
We then monitor your child's learning continuously on a daily basis and adapt or change our planning as needed. There are specific points within each term when we do another assessment linked to their baseline, giving us a true measure of your child's achievements and progress. This is fedback to parent's and carers at parent's meetings each term and next steps are shared and thought up together with how you can support your child's learning at home.
Daily communication also takes place with informal feedback on how your child is developing and further meetings are arranged if more support is needed.
As a school we ensure that all school groups are tracked looking at patterns of strengths and areas for development that we can react to in a timely manner, ensuring that intervention can be put in place or success can be celebrated and worked on even further.
Your child's Learning Journey on Tapestry is a great way to share information about your child’s learning and achievements and it contains observations we make and photos we take throughout your child’s time here at South Normanton Nursery School.
This is also a fantastic way of you sharing your experiences of your child’s achievements and learning that happens when they are not at school. All this information is then in one place and represents the ‘whole’ learning journey of your child.
There are robust policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety of your Data and we encourage you to use the content of your child's learning with sensitivity and in a responsible manner. We recommend not sharing on social media to ensure the safety and privacy of all our children as we urge you to think about your child's digital footprint online.
Your child's learning journey will be shared with any other setting they attend and also with the school that they will attend.
