Learning About Remembrance Day: 11/11/16

 

 

Remembrance Day is an important date in the calendar and it is very important for children to learn a little about its meaning, even at an early age.

 

This type of learning is a very important part of our Personal, Social and Emotional Development and our British Values curriculum as well as helping the children to have a better knowledge and understanding of the world and important events in history.

 

At nursery we talked to the children about the many important people who helped to keep us safe a long time ago. We said that the poppy flowers help us to remember and say thank you to these special people.  We also made our very own special poppies to wear in nursery too and had other activities in nursery to help us to talk and think about Remembrance Day such as planting poppies in the garden and making poppy pictures and collages.

When we had made our poppies, some of us sang a special song to help us to remember what we'd learnt.
