Our Governors

Our Governor Vision

The Governing Body

The Governing Body of South Normanton Nursery School is comprised of representatives of the LA, the Community, Parents and Staff.

All Governors complete a business interests form annually, a copy of the business interests register can be viewed on the link at the bottom of this page.

The Full Governing Body meets at least four times a year, and throughout the year select Governors also meet regularly as the Resource Management Committee (RMC). This Committee then feeds back to the Full Governing Body. From September 2019, all members of the Governing Body now sit on the Teaching and Learning Committee. The meetings of this committee have been incorporated into the Full Governing Body Meetings.

Name and type of Governor

Reason for becoming a GovernorA glimpse into my life ....

Peter Hallsworth

Headteacher

I am the Headteacher of the school and I work closely with the rest of the Governing Body in ensuring that we have a clear strategic direction and vision and that we provide the best care and education for our children. By working together and ensuring that we have a clear plan of why and how we can develop, we will continue to make South Normanton Nursery School the best it can be. I spend time out of school with my family going to the theatre and taking long walks. I am a big football fan, previously running two football teams. I also go to watch my favourite team with my son.

Siobhan Johnston

Chair of Governors

LA Governor

I applied to be a Governor because I really want to help our amazing nursery continue to be outstanding. Placing my daughter in this nursery was the best thing we've ever done and watching her develop is amazing. I wanted to help ensure that many more parents get to experience this and that we don't stand still but continue to move the teaching and nursery forward. I've worked in the public sector for a long time and believe in creating somewhere where every child can develop and be the best they can.In my spare time I love to ice-skate particularly with my daughter. I am working in improving my figure skating. I enjoy walking in the Peak District and getting out and about and exploring the local area. I love to be active and don't like to stay still for too long!

Michelle Reid

Vice-chair of Governors

Co-opted Governor

I have been a Co-opted Governor at South Normanton Nursery School since 2021. I am delighted to be part of such a caring and inclusive setting where everyone strives for excellence and works hard to provide the best start for our young children. Being in the profession for the past 20 years, I value education and am dedicated to enhancing the learning journey for all children, providing them with a high-quality education and great childhood learning experiences. As a Mum of a keen swimmer, I tend to find myself spending a lot of time by the poolside. When time allows, I can often be found doing a few lengths myself, or curled up with a good book. To keep active, I love walking and spending time in the great outdoors with my family.

Lindsey Butler

Parent Governor

I applied to be a Parent Governor because I'd like to help the nursery continue its' outstanding standards and offer my support and help when needed. I have worked in childcare for 18 years and currently work as an Early Years Curriculum Lead, I also feel I have a lot of ideas to offer, and will go above and beyond to ensure the children have the best start to education. I feel honoured to be a part of the Governing Body. My little boy attends this nursery and I can see a great change in him.

In my spare time, I enjoy being creative, listening to music and doing yoga. But more than anything, I love exploring in the woods; making mud pies; collecting natural resources to make stick men and jumping in puddles with my little boy.

Sadie Burrows

Parent Governor

I applied to be a Governor when my little girl started the nursery school and absolutely loved it. She loved telling us stories about her day and all things she has learnt. When the opportunity arose to apply for the position I thought it would be a fantastic chance to be part of such a great nursery. It’s a privilege to be involved in the schools decisions and working with such dedicated staff who are putting their heart and soul into improving the school for everyoneI am a mum of 2 and I work as a Human Resources Officer for a local company. On weekends I enjoy going on family days out and going on adventures. I also like to try and attend a fitness class once a week too.

Kathryn Fearon

Parent Governor

As a mum of a young boy who attends the nursery school, I found myself wanting to invest into the establishment that helped him come on with his personal and academic development as soon as he started attending. I wanted to help the nursery school continue to develop in its outstanding practice that values each individual child and so when the opportunity arose for me to volunteer as a parent governor, I took it. I have been a secondary school history teacher for 10 years now giving me a good understanding of the end point of school based education, so I hope that my ideas will help to support the education of young people from the earliest point that it begins to impact upon, and shape their lives. My family takes up most of my spare time, from swimming lessons with my two little fish, to cheering on from the side of the rugby pitch. We also spend a lot of time cooking and baking together in the kitchen, exploring as many woodlands as we can, and visiting the local clip and climbing centres. Away from my family, I love food and enjoy trying recommended restaurants with friends.

Holly Jevons

Co-opted Governor

I applied to be a Governor because ever since visiting the nursery on an open day with my little girl, before she had even turned one, I thought it was amazing. She is now attending and absolutely loves it. I would like to contribute in any way I can to help continue to provide an outstanding environment for our little ones I have worked in childcare for 16 years and am currently a teacher in a SEN school so hopefully I will be able to bring plenty of ideas and support.

When I am not working I love to spend quality time with my two girls, husband and our doggies. We love trips out to parks. Farms and adventures in the woods. We love a bit of arts and crafts, baking and messy play too – the messier the better.

Emma Stevenson

Co-opted Governor

I asked if Grandparents could become a Governor when my eldest grandson started at nursery in Sept 2021. My initial involvement at nursery was 26 years ago when my own children attended the nursery. When I visited with my daughter and grandson, I was amazed at how the nursery has grown in 26 years. The nursery continues to be welcoming to all and the positive attitude of all staff supporting our loved ones continues 26 years later. I look forward to supporting the nursery and Governing Body continue to develop and build on the excellent foundations already in place.

When I am not a Governor at the nursery, I am employed full time by Derbyshire County Council as a Social Worker in Adult Care. In my spare time, I am the secretary of South Normanton Gala Crew. I enjoy spending time with my family and grandchildren and enjoy baking, reading and cross-stitch (when I have time!)

Sarah Waldram

Staff Governor

I am a teacher at South Normanton nursery and being part of the Governing Body is a fantastic opportunity to invest further in the life of such a lovely school. I hope to offer a teacher perspective on any decisions that are made and to support the other Governors in their roles. Having been a Governor before and a teacher for over 20 years, I am committed to ensuring that the children get the care, curriculum and opportunities that they deserve.  It is a privilege to be in a position that has such a direct impact on the lives of the children at our school.

I am a busy mum of 3 children and so my spare time is often spent driving them to various clubs and groups! As a family we love walking, watching films and playing/watching rugby!! I am involved in running a toddler group in my local area and am trying hard to complete ‘Couch25K’ although I tend to prefer relaxing with a take away!
