Our Governors

Our vision

The Governing Body

The Governing Body of South Normanton Nursery School is comprised of representatives of the LA, the Community, Parents and Staff.

All Governors complete a business interests form annually, a copy of the business interests register can be viewed on the link at the bottom of this page.

The Full Governing Body meets at least four times a year, and throughout the year select Governors also meet regularly as the Resource Management Committee (RMC). This Committee then feeds back to the Full Governing Body. From September 2019, all members of the Governing Body now sit on the Teaching and Learning Committee. The meetings of this committee have been incorporated into the Full Governing Body Meetings.

We currently have vacancies for a Parent Governor and a Co-opted Governor. If you are interested, please speak to Peter or Moira (Nov 2020).

Reason for becoming a Governor A glimpse into my life ....

Peter Hallsworth

Headteacher

I am the Headteacher of the school and I work closely with the rest of the Governing Body in ensuring that we have a clear strategic direction and vision and that we provide the best care and education for our children. By working together and ensuring that we have a clear plan of why and how we can develop, we will continue to make South Normanton Nursery School the best it can be.  I spend time out of school with my family going to the theatre and taking long walks. I am a big football fan, previously running two football teams. I also go to watch my favourite team with my son.

Siobhan Johnston

Chair of Governors

LA Governor

I applied to be a Governor because I really want to help our amazing nursery continue to be outstanding. Placing my daughter in this nursery was the best thing we've ever done and watching her develop is amazing. I wanted to help ensure that many more parents get to experience this and that we don't stand still but continue to move the teaching and nursery forward. I've worked in the public sector for a long time and believe in creating somewhere where every child can develop and be the best they can. In my spare time I love to ice-skate particularly with my daughter. I am working in improving my figure skating. I enjoy walking in the Peak District and getting out and about and exploring the local area. I love to be active and don't like to stay still for too long!

David Ramsay

Vice-chair of Governors

Parent Governor

My eldest son attended the nursery in 2017/18 and the level of teaching, support and development he received was exceptional. I was really keen to get involved in the school and when I was asked about becoming a Governor I was more than happy to support. My sole aim is to support in any way I can to ensure that the school continues at the outstanding level. I have two younger children that are both registered to attend and after seeing first hand the difference it has made to my eldest son, I will do all that is asked of me as a Governor to ensure that continues for not just my own children, but those in the community as giving young people the best start to their educational journey is vital. I work as Continuous Improvement Manager for Wilko, which is all about improving business process. Outside of this I have 3 young children that keep me very busy, so spending time with them on various family days out is always good fun. I am also a big football fan and love going to watch Aston Villa.

Lindsey Butler

Parent Governor

I applied to be a Parent Governor because I'd like to help the nursery continue its' outstanding standards and offer my support and help when needed. I have worked in childcare for 18 years and currently work as an Early Years Curriculum Lead, I also feel I have a lot of ideas to offer, and will go above and beyond to ensure the children have the best start to education. I feel honoured to be a part of the Governing Body. My little boy attends this nursery and I can see a great change in him.

In my spare time, I enjoy being creative, listening to music and doing yoga. But more than anything, I love exploring in the woods; making mud pies; collecting natural resources to make stick men and jumping in puddles with my little boy.

Gareth Holmes

 Parent Governor

I have two reasons for being a Governor. Firstly, I believe that we should strive to maintain and develop community - an integral part of this is our schools. Secondly, as a parent myself, I want I our children to receive the best education provision possible. It is for these reasons I'm pleased to serve on the Governors at South Normanton Nursery.

I live in the village with my wife and children and work full time in elite sport.

Eleanor Ball

Co-opted Governor

I wanted to become a Governor after my little boy attended nursery. I could see why it is outstanding in every way and it was amazing to see all of the children growing and learning together. I now hope to do my part to help the nursery continue to maintain and develop its excellent standards of teaching and learning, and I'm so proud to be a Governor for such a brilliant nursery school. I work for the NHS as infant feeding a nutrition support, helping parents and children up to the age of 5 learn the importance of good food. In my spare time I love being in the garden with my little boy growing plants and learning about wildlife. I’m also completing an MA in creative writing and I believe reading and writing are vital to growing young minds

Laura Topliss

Co-opted Governor

I wanted to be a Governor to play a part in supporting an outstanding nursery school and help ensure that excellent standards of learning are maintained.

I enjoy music, theatre, walking/running, travel and photography.

Ruth Davison

Teacher

(T & L Lead)

Staff Governor

I am the Teacher, Leading on Teaching and Learning and work full time in nursery. I am a Co-opted Governor and have been a member of the Governing Body since my appointment as teacher back in 2007. I see my Governing Body role as very important. Firstly stepping up as Acting Headteacher to maintain our high standards at nursery and then supporting our new Headteacher, but also helping to keep the rest of the Governing Body well informed of the teaching and learning in nursery. I am able to share with the other governors, from first hand experience, how as a staff we have the highest expectations for every child and maintain the highest possible standards for all the children in nursery as we prepare them for a life of living and learning. Outside of nursery, I love spending time at home with my family and exploring the countryside around my home. I enjoy films that make me think and songs that make smile and I listen to live music whenever I can.
