As a Rights Respecting School we put children’s rights at the heart of our learning as our nursery charter describes…
We are proud to have achieved our Rights Respecting Schools Award (Silver Rights Aware) for the second time, which shows our commitment to embedding the principles and developing our children's understanding of the The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a human rights treaty which sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. At nursery all staff are passionate about developing children’s understanding of the rights of every child. We not only ensure that the UNCRC is put into practice within our school but also that our children’s understanding about their rights and enjoyment of their rights runs through all of our learning at nursery and beyond into the wider reaching community.
The learning is carefully embedded through stories and discussion across the curriculum, with all children and explored more deeply within our ‘Big Thinkers’ group. We support the children’s understanding by also using Makaton symbols which illustrate each article of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
