A Christmas Themed Craft Activity Day: 08/12/16

We had lots of fun at our Christmas Craft Activity Day and although the weather was a bit damp, wet we were very happy to welcome parents, carers and grandparents  of our current nursery children as well as new families who will be coming to nursery in January. They all had a fantastic time joining in with seasonal activities, in nursery and in the nursery garden.

All week at nursery, as well as the other learning that we always do each week,  we have been learning about the traditional religious and non religious celebrations that take place at this time of year. We have read the nativity story to understand why Christian people celebrate Christmas and this learning continued throughout the Christmas Craft Activity Day.

In our nursery garden, our children and families enjoyed making willow wreath decorations and making reindeer food to help Rudolf to find his way to their houses on Christmas Eve. In nursery, decorated beautifully for Christmas, we had present wrapping in Santa's work shop, making snow globes  and writing letters to Santa  and then when we were feeling a bit hungry we went to have some snack and to decorate an edible Christmas tree!...yum!

These activities were really good for developing our gross and fine motor skills and some required a little perseverance. The activities also got us talking about Christmas and how we and others celebrate which therefore developed our communication skills as well as reinforcing our sense of community and understanding of British Values and Christian beliefs.

Thank you also to everyone who attended the day. We really appreciate people's support at these events.  It's a great opportunity to share the playing and learning that takes place at our outstanding nursery school and to further strengthen the links with our families and community.
