Learning Through the Story of Monkey Puzzle. 29/04/16

This week in nursery we have been doing lots of learning through the story of Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson. The story is about Monkey who can't find his Mum and asks a butterfly friend to help him to find him.
As we read the book we talked in detail about the characters in the story, describing what they looked like and discussed where the story was set and how we knew. Later we talked about identity and had some interesting discussions about who we are, what we look like and whether on not we look the same as our parents or the people who look after us (because in the story the mummy monkey looked the same as her child, but the mummy Butterfly didn't.) We have used our creativity too this week to paint pictures of what we look like,  make hand print monkeys  and collage butterflies, making lots of choices about how we want our pictures and models to look. The children really enjoyed this and were very proud of their creations! We also explored in the sand to find all the characters in the story and worked in cooperation with our friends to make a giant jungle jigsaw...Wow! what a busy week and what a lot of fantastic learning!
