Safer Internet Day 2019 - Together for a Better Internet: 05/02/19

Safer Internet Day 2019

At South Normanton Nursery School, we take internet safety very seriously. Technology is changing constantly and making sure that everyone is safe and respectful of each other, when using the ever changing World Wide Web is very important indeed.

Internet safety takes a high priority in our curriculum throughout the year as it is a very important aspect of the children’s learning about keeping themselves safe. We read and revisit a number of stories including Smartie the Penguin and Digi Duck, Chicken Clickin, xxxxxx and Webster the E-safe Spider and also also sing a special song, to help our young children to understand the things that they must do to be safe when they are using the internet.

For Internet Safety Day 2019, this part of our learning took especially high priority and we did lots of learning about keeping safe online. This year's theme was ‘Together for a Better Internet’ and this theme was an excellent way to reinforce the rights respecting agenda which underpins all our teaching and learning at nursery.

We discussed the different ways that the internet could be accessed and lots of the children knew about tablets, phones, internet enabled TV as well as laptops and computers. We also talked about using the internet for learning and then reinforced the need for safety by reading our E safe stories. The children read different stories and made some fantastic links between the stories and how to safely use the internet. We sang our E-safety song to help us to remember the important message…THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK and TELL A GROWN UP. We also wore stickers to reinforce these points further.

We will be re-arranging our Internet Safety session for parents for later in the year, so that hopefully more people are able to attend.

There is lots of information already on our website to support parents. Please follow the link below to take a look at this and feel free to talk to Ruth if you have any concerns, questions or require support with internet safety.
