Breaking news…our butterflies have now hatched!
We have watched them grow from tiny caterpillars, getting bigger and bigger each day by eating their special caterpillar food.
We watched them spin their cocoons and then hatch into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies. We then fed them with flowers, fruit and sugar water, whilst they got a little bit stronger and then we released them into the nursery wildlife garden. , where there are plenty of flowers for them to feed on.
Watching the caterpillars grow into butterflies has helped the children to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children have extended their vocabulary, learning new words like nectar and cocoon and have learned about the special jobs that plants and animal have in the garden. They have also learnt about the importance of being kind to animals.
