We are having an Open Morning on Saturday 3rd December from 9am to 12pm FOR CHILDREN WHO WOULD BE DUE TO START NURSERY IN SEPTEMBER 2023, JANUARY 2024 AND EASTER 2024 (born between 01.04.20 and 31.03.21).

Charlie Communicate
Wed 21 Sep 2022Charlie Communicate says ‘Ditch the Dummy’
Meet Charlie Communicate. He helps us to communicate with our friends.
Charlie wants to let you know about the impact of having a dummy can have on his friends. The longer they use the dummy, the more chance there is that it will affect their speech and language and the development of their teeth. Charlie knows that it is not easy to ditch the dummy. He suggests that you could:
- Offer something else as a comforter in place of the dummy; this could be a toy or a small blanket
- If your baby wakes in the night try to comfort them without giving them back the dummy
- Remove dummies from the home or keep them out of sight
- Depending on their level of understanding, you can prepare your child for what is going to happen. For example, you might say: “Tomorrow we’re going to say bye-bye to dummy because you’re a big boy/girl now”
- Give your child praise and encouragement, and if they haven’t mentioned the dummy, try not to remind them
- Consistency really is key. Once you have decided to ditch the dummy, you and all those who care for your little one must stay consistent.
- Alternatively, you could bring ALL your child’s dummies to Charlie at Nursery, who will swap them for a gift.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021
Tue 11 May 2021Here at South Normanton Nursery School, as a Rights Respecting School, we are always committed to supporting every child to learn about and enjoy their right to information and opportunities to help them to keep their mind and body healthy (UNCRC A24/A31)
This week we are all thinking about mental health even more as it is Mental Health Awareness Week. It’s been a very tricky year for us all, so it is also even more important that we all taking special care of our mental health and that of our families and friends.
The Mental Health Awareness Week theme this year is Why Nature?
Nature is so central to our psychological and emotional health, that it’s almost impossible to realise good mental health for all, without a greater connection to the natural world.

It’s not just being out ‘in’ nature that’s important but also interacting with it, to improve feelings of calm, wellbeing, confidence and positivity for the whole family.

Remember Mental Health is so important. There are lots of things you can do to support your own mental health and well-being and that of your family and additional support is always available if you need it.

A Fond Farewell and our thanks
Fri 17 Jul 2020Yesterday was the last day at nursery for our children at nursery. It’s been such a tricky few months but we just want to say that are so very proud of each and every one of you. We hope you all keep safe and have a wonderful summer holiday and we want to give you on our sincerest thanks for all of your kind words, cards and gifts, which were very much appreciated.
We also bid a fond farewell to Carly one of our early years educators and to Gwyneth, who has been with us at nursery for the last 16 years...you will be missed so much.
We look forward to welcoming some of our children back in September but for others, their time at nursery has come to an end as they prepare for the next steps of their learning journey at big school in September...we know you will be fantastic!
It was great that so many of you could join us today for our virtual celebration on Teams...it was really lovely to see you and your families to celebrate your time at nursery.

‘Bear’ and ‘Little Monkey’ have arrived!
Sun 05 Jul 2020The last few months have been so tricky as together we have worked together to forge a way through the Covid19 pandemic.
For our nursery children, transition to their Infant Schools is such an important time as is the transition into nursery for the first time, so this year as we have had to think about supporting our children in a completely different way we have embarked on a special transition project…The Teddy Bear project.
Children who are leaving us in September all received their preparation pack last week, to get ready for 'Bear'…and this week 'Bear' arrived! Along with 'Bear', who children will name and take care of, there are also some activities for parents and their child do. For children who are going to The Green or The Brigg there was also be a storybook based on the new school, showing them what they can expect to see and do when they start their new school.
Many of the children who will be returning to us in September will also not have been to nursery for nearly 7 months and our new September starters have been unable to have their usual visits to our nursery. With this in mind, we have shared a similar pack for these children and new starters. 'Little Monkey' also arrived this week with a story all about nursery and lots of activities and ideas to support children with getting ready to begin or return to nursery.
The children were so excited to receive their new friends. We hope they have fabulous time taking care of them and completing the activities with them and also that in doing so, their mental health and well-being will be supported as they embark on this new chapter in their journey of learning.
